Latest update broke things. Saving practice test feature is broken, now it keeps resetting progress. Also huge problem is the new placement of the furigana button. It used to be floating so you could toggle it while reading. Now it's a hard button at the top so you're forced to scroll all the way up to toggle. Very bad when you only want to turn on furigana at specific points to assist your reading practice. NHK website used to have hard button and finally made it floating. Why go backwards?

I don't understand the reason for the recent design change, it was fine before. I continually encounter new issues with this design with few benefits compared to the old one. Now, some words are not able to be translated, the translations don't show which kanji the hiragana corresponds to, the show furigana option is more inconvenient to activate, etc. An option to revert back would be great.

So! Many! Features! In addition to the news articles (which are filled with helpful hints), there are videos with transcripts, a dictionary loaded with sample sentences and grammar instruction, scads of audio files, a flash card function- so much good stuff. I went for life during a half-off sale, but honestly it's worth full price. This app isn't just about the language learning- it turns the grind of memorizing vocabulary and rules into a vivid, powerful experience. 大好き!

I gave this app a fair chance four years ago, and I rated it 3 stars because you couldn't simply tap words to see a definition/translation. They promised that the feature was coming. After all this time, they still haven't added it. Additionally, trying to highlight individual words is impossible. The cursor bounces all over the place and highlights half the article every time I try. I'm honestly baffled by the high reviews.

App is good for material, but has issues. It is more than just a reader but it more of an all-in-one Japanese language resource app. Don't trust the translation feature though, it will sometimes have a translation by someone else that is either wrong or the translation is still Japanese. And even if you translate it yourself it doesn't default to it or just doesn't save at all.

Vocabulary is my primary struggle point in Japanese. Most common phrases and words have been ingrained in my head for years, but expanding my vocabulary to something useful has always been difficult. This app cleverly hides vocabulary content within short, coincide articles that I can mostly translate on my own. If there is a word I don't know, I end up learning it naturally the more I use the app. As a final point, the articles are recent, and relevant, so they remain interesting. 5 ⭐ easily.

A really great way to practice Japanese. It feels a lot better to read an article and get something extra out of your practice, rather than, "John bought seven handbags at the convenience store." The resources to look up kanji, kana particles, or full phrases are all integrated and super easy to use. I would highly recommend this to anyone who is learning Japanese and is getting sick of repeating the same sentences. It's a really refreshing way to practice.

The best way to learn a new language is by reading actual material. Just material being that it's contemporary news allows the reader to better understand a new language. You are able to interact with the various vocabulary and look at examples in order to better assimilate and understand a new language. Also you're able to use the flashcard feature to learn new vocabulary. I highly recommend this app. I wish it existed 20 years ago when I was learning Japanese and was an undergraduate student.
